The Covid-19 pandemic has brought vulnerability into significant parts of public and worldwide society including schools. Covid-19 has caused many significant disruptions to the school system. At the beginning of the pandemic the closing of schools seemed to be the most effective method to limit the spread of the virus, this however posed a threat to students’ academic achievement.
In order to move forward with learning while also following Covid-19 protocols blended learning was introduced, this consisted of a mix of rotational classes and web based instructing, however the unexpected implementation meant that the students and teachers had little or no experience with this education model.
This however did not stop Sastri College from striving for academic excellence. The hard work of the staff ensured that the students were well equipped to keep up despite the challenges.
The comprehensive study guides complied by the educators of Sastri College ensured the students had enough study material and activities to prepare them for the examination and meant the students were learning every day, even on the days they did not attend school.
The learning resources provided by Sastri College along with the hard work and dedication of the staff and students ensured the students had all they needed to facilitate effective learning amidst the pandemic and were adequately prepared for the National Senior Certificate Examinations.
This dedication to the students and academic excellence was recognised when Sastri College high school was awarded the Certificate of Outstanding Performance for obtaining a 94% pass rate and for being the NO 1 school in Durban West Circuit for the 2021 National Senior Certificate Examinations.
